How to Edit Sony FDR-AX700 4K XAVC S in Premiere Pro CC/CS6/CS5?

The FDR-AX700 4K HDR camcorder offers a higher quality method of recording 4K video than the productions typically rendered from a Smartphone. It uses the new highly efficient XAVC-S 4K compression format (100Mbps bit rate) to record 4K@30p or 24p, or (50Mbps bit rate) to record 1080p video at 24p, 30p, 60p, and 120p (100Mbps bit rate).  However, you’ll have a painful time to import Sony FDR-AX700 4K XAVC S footage into Premiere Pro for editing.

Though 4K XAVC-S format is very efficient for encoding video data into small file sizes. It is not however easy or quick to decode for high-quality finishing and post production processing. Additionally, XVAC S, a long GOP inter-frame codec, does not appear to be supported by Adobe Premiere Pro(including old version Premiere Pro CS4/CS5/CS6 or the latest CC) so far. Step 1. Load Sony FDR-AX700 4K XAVC S files

Free download and run the XAVC S to Premiere Pro Converter and click “Add File” button to locate the Sony FDR-AX700 XAVC S file(s) to the program. Or you can drag&drop the files into software window list directly.


Step 2. Set output format

Click “Format” pull down list to select Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as the best video format for Premiere Pro. WMV, MOV formats are the good choice as well.


Tips-Advanced: Click “Settings” to fix the frame rate, bitrate, video size, etc to your needs. To have a smooth editing with Adobe Premiere Pro, you need create the files with the appropriate resolution and frame rate that matches your source footage.

Step 3. Start the conversion

With all setting, tap the big “Convert” button to transcode and convert Sony FDR-AX700XAVC S to MPEG-2 for Premiere Pro.

Once the conversion is complete, you can find the output files by clicking “Open” button on the main interface, then you can transfer the converted XAVC S files to Premiere Pro CC/CS6/CS5 for editing without hassle.
